Umit Yusuf Ogras
Umit Yusuf Ogras, a distinguished figure in electrical and computer engineering, combines his academic and entrepreneurial pursuits with equal enthusiasm. As an Associate Professor at the University of Wisconsin-Madison, he contributes significantly to the Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering.
Career Trajectory
Unit Embarked on his professional path with a Ph.D. in Computer Engineering from Carnegie Mellon University, which he achieved in 2007. His initial post-doctoral phase saw him at Intel (2008-2013) as a research scientist, contributing notably to the development of the Intel Xeon Server processors, mainly the Skylake server, and energy-efficient systems-on-chip (SoC). Afterwards, he honed his academic expertise at Arizona State University, serving on the faculty from 2013 to 2020. His journey then led him to the University of Wisconsin-Madison. In addition to his academic roles, he ventured into entrepreneurship, co-founding xPLORE Solutions and DASH Tech Integrated Circuits, Inc.
Throughout his career, his research interests have been diverse, spanning heterogeneous multicore architectures, wearable computing, low-power VLSI, flexible hybrid electronics, and domain-specific systems. A notable recognition came from Google Scholar, which acknowledged one of his early papers, co-authored with his PhD advisor Radu Marculescu, as a milestone in computer hardware design. His expertise and passion in embedded systems, edge AI, mobile and wearable computing, multicore architectures, flexible hybrid electronics, and semiconductor engineering have established him as a leading figure in these domains. He leads the eLab Research group, mentoring students at various academic levels, from high school to graduate studies.

Beyond his professional realm, he finds solace and enjoyment in soccer, reading, movies, and tennis. These activities, rooted in his childhood passions and interests, offer him avenues for relaxation, joy, and rejuvenation. His journey into tennis began with an introductory class, while his love for soccer, reading, and movies has been a lifelong affair.
