• Umit Yusuf Ogras

    Umit Yusuf Ogras is a distinguished professor of electrical and computer engineering and an innovative entrepreneur. He currently serves as an associate professor in the Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering at the University of Wisconsin-Madison. His journey in the professional world began following the completion of his PhD in Computer Engineering from Carnegie Mellon University in 2007.

     

    Before embarking on his academic career, he applied his expertise at Intel, where he contributed significantly as a research scientist from 2008 to 2013. During his tenure at Intel, he focused on the development of Intel Xeon Server processors, mainly the Skylake server, and worked on advancing energy-efficient systems-on-chip (SoC). His pursuit of knowledge and teaching skills then led him to Arizona State University, where he served as a faculty member from 2013 to 2020.

     

    In a move to further his academic influence, he joined the Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering at the University of Wisconsin-Madison. In addition to his academic pursuits, he ventured into the entrepreneurial world, becoming a founding member of xPLORE Solutions and DASH Tech Integrated Circuits, Inc.

     

    Throughout his career, he has explored various research areas, ranging from heterogeneous multicore architectures and wearable computing to low-power VLSI, flexible hybrid electronics, and domain-specific systems. His expertise and contributions have not gone unnoticed, as evidenced by Google Scholar recognizing one of his early papers, co-authored with his PhD advisor Radu Marculescu, as a classic in computer hardware design.
